In this new role of Regulatory Affairs Manager, you will lead activities focused in relation to product packaging, labelling, marketing and promotion in compliance with Canadian laws and regulations, as well as corporate policies and procedures. You will review the packaging and labeling of all products produced and marketed by Valens and its affiliates for regulatory compliance, addressing questions and requests, updating and maintaining documentation and approvals across several applications, and working closely with other members of the team to provide proactive and creative solutions to our customers.

Regulatory Affairs Manager Responsibilities

  • Monitor the regulatory environment, interpret Health Canada regulations and relevant changes as they get published, analyze gaps and impact, and propose appropriate recommendations
  • Interpret, summarize and provide regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders on product packaging, labelling, marketing collateral and promotional activities to ensure provincial and federal compliance
  • Provide regulatory guidance for new products and innovations, ensuring specialized advice is provided for each product in a timely and effective manner
  • Develop and maintain internal labelling guidelines, best practices, workflows and SOPs for each product line
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment of regulatory affairs strategy with business priorities, managing emerging matters and proposing alternatives
  • Prepare and manage the coordination and compilation of regulatory submissions, responses to regulatory agencies’ questions and other correspondence in accordance with the relevant regulations and guidelines
  • Work with the internal team to provide timely responses to queries from Health Canada

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 5+ years experience working within Regulatory Affairs and with Health Canada in an industry with highly regulated products (tobacco, food, medicinal)
  • Experienced with review and approval of marketing, labelling, packaging and other aspects of consumer products
  • Proficient knowledge of Canadian laws, regulations, guidelines and policies
  • Ability to interpret and understand Regulations in the context of the scientific and commercial environment
  • Understanding of the application of laws, regulations, and policies to specific projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of label formatting requirements, ingredients, claims, and nutritional labelling
  • Foresee and clearly communicate potential problems/risks and offer creative, workable solutions
  • Strong writing and presentation skills
