Senior Accountant/Bookkeeper

Valens is looking for an experienced bookkeeper to prepare and assist in managing the day-to-day accounting operations in Kelowna, BC. The ideal candidate has strong skills in organization, multi-tasking, self-management, accuracy and meeting deadlines. They are not scared to ask questions and ensure things are done properly the first time around. The candidate must value confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Preference will be given to candidates with a working knowledge of Quickbooks.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Balance and maintain accurate ledgers
  • Match purchase orders with invoices
  • Report financial results on a regular basis to management
  • Monitor office expenses and tally/enter cash receipts
  • Purchase supplies and equipment as authorized by management
  • Pay or prepare payments for vendor invoices and track bank account balances
  • Tag and monitor fixed assets
  • Process payroll semi-monthly
  • Develop monthly financial statements, including cash flow, profit and loss statements and balance sheets, bank reconciliations, etc
  • Prepare quarterly GST tax returns
  • Assemble information for external auditors for the annual audit
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain chart of accounts and conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure accurate
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to management as requested


  • Experience with data entry, record keeping and computer operations
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software
  • Experience in services relating to payroll (using payroll softwares, submitting payroll taxes, etc)
  • Understanding of business reports required for management
  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards an asset
  • Degree in Accounting or related field an asset
  • Ability to manage/help with multiple books also an asset
